The PCB Top Gun Hall of Fame inducted its first two winners on Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at PCB Design Conference East.
1998 Top Gun Contest Inaugural Winners:
Steve Herbstman
Electronic Packaging Systems
Westford, MA
Barry Hurley, PCB Design Consultants, Dallas, TX
(L to R: Barry Hurley; Pete Waddell, PCD;
and Steve Herbstman)
Five people participated in the contest to evaluate their talent, expertise and knowledge of the design of PCBs. Contestants had 1 1/2 days to complete a board design following the design parameters given using the design software program of their choice. They were then given a written test that consisted of 100 multiple choice questions.(This test will not be made
available because some questions may be used in future contests.) The testing was followed by contestants being interviewed by a panel of three PCB designers.The high and low scores were thrown out,
and the middle score was multiplied by 10. The board design counted for 50% of the score; the written test for 30%; and the interview for 20%.
The plots of the board design from each participant are available by
