One of my favorite logos. But what really confuses me is the Volkswagen marketing strategy of this model in US and Canada. VW officially introduced the entry-level hatchback Golf in North America in 1974 as the Volkswagen Rabbit, and then it was rebranded as the Golf during 1980's before it was re-rebranded as the Rabbit again in 2006. Finally, it was re-re-rebranded back to Golf in 2010. Volkswagen's Director of Brand Innovation, Kerri Martin, said, "The reintroduction of the Rabbit represents Volkswagen's commitment to this market and is a nod to the passionate North American enthusiasts who have an emotional connection with the Rabbit name." This rabbit logo was originally designed by David Edstein, and was redesigned for its return in 2003, displayed on 20th-anniversary edition of the GTI.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen (often abbreviated to VW) is an automobile manufacturer based in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Volkswagen was originally founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront). Volkswagen is the original marque within the Volkswagen Group, which includes the car marques Audi, Bentley Motors, Bugatti Automobiles, Automobili Lamborghini, SEAT, Škoda Auto and heavy goods vehicle manufacturer Scania. In 2009, the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG endorsed the creation of an integrated automotive group with Porsche under the leadership of Volkswagen.

Volkswagen means "people's car" in German, in which it is pronounced [ˈfɔlksˌvaːɡən]. Its current tagline or slogan is Das Auto (in English The Car). Its previous German tagline was Aus Liebe zum Automobil, which translates to: Out of Love for the Car, or, For Love of the Automobile, as translated by VW in other languages.
