Pizza Hut unveiled the new logo in New York September, 1999 with the announcement of a sponsorship of the world's largest proton rocket which will launch the permanent living capsule of the International Space Station. The logo will blast off in a 30-foot tall image emblazoned on the rocket that launches from Kazakhstan in mid-November. The logo overhaul is part of a $500 million brand revitalization push for Pizza Hut.

The new four-color logo is similar to the old one, but it features a new typeface, two additional splashes of color -- yellow and green -- and the chain's name and the red roof are slightly tilted. The updated logo is expected to appear systemwide on menus, pizza delivery boxes, uniforms and advertising by mid-November, and it will be incorporated into all future remodels and new restaurants.

By retaining the red roof as an identifying symbol, Landor helped reinforce the perception of Pizza Hut as a destination. To further differentiate the brand, a freehand typography was used along with an entire palette of icons that symbolized the freshness of its ingredients and ultimately provided Pizza Hut with the brand relevance it desired.
