Starbucks Corporation is a US based coffee house chain. It is named after a character from the novel Moby Dick and is one of the largest coffee house companies in the world. It's original logo was modeled after an old 15th or 16th century Norse woodcut of a two-tailed mermaid or siren.
In 1987 Starbucks and Il Giornale merged into one company and a new logo was developed by combining the logos of both companies. The Starbucks siren was kept but modernized and the stars from the Il Giornale logo were added. The brown from the original logo was dropped and the green from the Il Giornale logo replaced it instead.
