The Memphis Grizzlies, coming off the best season in franchise history, unveiled a new logo and team colors Monday. The team's new uniforms will be revealed on June 17. The logo is a bear's head intently looking straight ahead. It incorporates dark and lights shades of blue with the eyes partly gold.

"We are proud to show our fans the first stage of a new era of Grizzlies basketball by launching our new primary logo," Grizzlies President Jerry West said. "The new logo is a simple, timeless design that will symbolize winning, tradition and the future of Grizzlies basketball. I love our new logo."

West said the players were involved in designing the logo and the team's new uniforms. "They were very instrumental in describing what they wanted the look and the colors to represent," he said.

The team is part of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Along with the Toronto Raptors, the Grizzlies were established in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The team originated that year in Vancouver, British Columbia and relocated to Memphis in 2001. The team's majority owner is Michael Heisley, who controls a 95% share of the franchise; the remaining 5% is controlled by several local owners, including AutoZone founder J. R.
